Flynn is a beautiful friendly 17mnth old english border collie. He is house
trained and crate trained too, and his crate can come with him. He loves
sleeping in it at night and it's a happy safe place for him to be if there is
no-one about for a bit to supervise him. We leave the door open during the day
and often find him tucked up in there of his own accord.
Flynn is also lead trained and is excellent off lead. He does not run off
when off the lead and recalls with about 85% accuracy. Flynn is so
enthusiastic that he tries to anticipate everything you are going to ask him for and
do it all at once! With more training, and getting him to focus, he'd be a
star at obedience or agility. I would say the only thing you have to watch
with Flynn is the tendency when off-lead to see another person or dog and just
rush up to them in anticipation of a freindly welcome...you have to be quick
then with a recall to avoid him jumping all over the person (usually he gets
muddy on a walk so people don't always appreciate his affection!)... He loves
playing with other dogs he meets on walks and he loves children too...but
again, he needs watching with regard to jumping up. Flynn doesn't like cats.
Flynn was hit by a car when he was about 10 months old. He didn't suffer
any injuries other than cuts and scrapes but it has made him a little nervous
of cars on lead walks. We have been advised to just ignore the nervous b
ehaviour, ask for his attention on us, and not to let ourselves get tense about
it. With time, and more lead walking (most of our walking here is over the
fields off-lead), it should resolve itself.
