Our gorgeous, darling Dolly is a sweet and affectionate lady looking for a calm & quiet forever home with a confident resident dog to show her the ropes. She would prefer a home without children and would love her adopters to be around as much as possible as she does find it quite scary to be left alone for too long, although this is improving the more she grows in confidence and she will cope for an hour or two every now and then once she has settled into her new home, with the help of her adopters.
Dolly has been through a lot in her life and has been recovering in foster with us, after a recent ordeal where she was hit by a car after being re-homed and has come back into our care. Luckily, the physical injuries where minimal and none where lasting, but she is now understandably nervous & a little more skittish than before. She is housetrained but does have the occasional accident if she's feeling unhappy or stressed.
Despite her slightly more senior years, Dolly loves her walks & will need a good amount of exercise every day. She can be quite strong on the lead, which we are working on, and although her recall is good she must stay on a long or extending lead for the time being while we work on her confidence.
Dolly does find strangers a little unsettling and takes time to come around to them, especially men. This wonderful girl needs a very special family to offer the patience, consistency and love she needs to truly come out of her shell. She's a loving, gentle girlie with so much to give to the right person. If you think that could be you, please put in an application. You must be prepared to visit Dolly in her foster home in Tredegar more than once, to allow her to get to know you before she makes the move into her forever home. Link to our adoption requirements and application form is at the top of this thread.

Dolly is still waiting very patiently for her forever home, hopefully it won't be long before someone falls in love with that beautiful face angel.gif In the mean time, she's coming out of her shell every day she's with us & seems to very content with her life here!
Her days are spent sprawled out on the sofa having a snooze (preferably curled up with our resident dog if possible!). She certainly knows the jingle of her harness being picked up though, even if she's in the deepest sleep I just have to reach for her lead and like a flash she's sat behind me with her tail whizzing at a hundred miles an hour! She still finds walking through door ways very scary and has to be coaxed through gently, but once outside the tail & ears go up and she's off, sniffing everything in sight. She is very strong on the lead with a tendency to zig zag around (a good harness helps and we're working on the pulling), especially on the way out to a walk. She's just so excited to get out and explore! She's still not quite ready to be allowed off lead as you just can't be sure she won't get spooked, but her recall on the extending lead if 100% flawless.
Meal times are definitely her highlight of the day, this girlie LOVES her food & a few tasty treats are a sure fire way to win her over if she's being a bit shy.
There is still a way to go for Dolly to get over her fears but she's taking massive steps in the right direction & constantly surprising us. She's learnt loud noises on the TV & the hoover are no threat at all & now doesn't bat an eyelid, but lots of activity or changes to routine do tend to leave her feeling a little anxious. When that happens, she just retreats to a safe corner if she can and take refuge until she feels ready to venture out again.
It really is about time this lovely lady had a home of her own to continue her journey in. We are looking for a special person or family with a lot of love and patience to help Dolly continue to get over her fears. She needs a confident, steady resident dog in her new home & a child free environment with people who are able to be around as much as possible while she learns she's safe & gets used to being left. If you think you have the home to offer Dolly what she needs, you will be thoroughly rewarded with a loving, affectionate companion who will literally melt your heart when you meet her! I really hope her perfect family find her soon ^-^
Poor girlie Dolly a few hours after being hit by a car:

Less than 24 hours later though, she was already settling right back in:

She's an affectionate girl who adores her cuddles, once she gets to know you:

And she adores her foster brother too - Dolly takes a huge amount of confidence from Dizzy dog and would love a four legged friend in her forever home:

Met this sweet gentle girl yesterday (love her new name) and she is a darling. At first she was a bit confused with the situation that she found herself in again but with gentle cwtches and softly spoken praises/encouragement she began to relax (bless her). She looked beautiful before her bath but now WOW what a shiny coat - this lady is born to be loved. :luv:
-
:) Aw Dolly you don't realise it just yet but this is the start of your life in safe & loving arms :-*
-
1st post updated :)

:) Well done for being such a good brave girl today, gentle healing coming your way, wish I could "lose" a few years like you did ;) :-*
-
I just had to share this picture of her taken this morning - now she's fully vaccinated & had her stitches taken out she got go on a proper, muddy walk in the rain & she loved it! Her ears & tail where held high for the whole walk & despite not being able to go off the extending lead (she's still too skittish & nervous for that) she had a great time running laps around me and sniffing everything she came across. Such a lovely sight! She looks a different dog to me & it's been a joy to watch her come out of her shell.

Dolly you are adorable and that special home is just around the corner you put your paws up and relax and recover with lots of tlc with Mat Em and Dizzy until you are ready you gorgeous girl angel.gif

We took our lovely girl for a short walk this afternoon, to see how she reacted to being out and to traffic. She initially didn't want to walk out the front door and eventually crept out with her tail between her legs...but the second she set foot on the driveway she transformed! Not once did she bat an eye lid at any passing cars and she trotted along with Matt, grinning up at him. After a few minutes, her tail went up & she was thrilled to be out. We'll do a longer walk tomorrow and build up from there, but this remarkable girl has surprised us yet again. She's still got a long way to go before she can be allowed off lead, but her trusting nature is completely humbling :luv:
-
:) Aw Dolly you really are amazing, it's brilliant that you're starting to trust already......... maybe it's because you know you're in safe & loving hands :-*
-
Our lovely Miss Dolly is now available for re-homing and is waiting very patiently for her perfect forever home. -
I absolutely love watching this girl relax - she's becoming more playful & inquisitive every day! She's just finished devouring a bone we brought her from Pets at Home today, and then for the first time ever she picked up a toy right in front of us! She's spent 10 minutes happily playing on the sofa before curling up for a nap. Such a beautiful sight:

Dolly's had a bit of a pamper today :) Her coat was looking a bit dull and she's been malting loads so we decided to book her in with our lovely groomer (Pawfection) for a tidy up and she's looking brilliant! The groomer reported that she'd been good as gold and took it all in her stride (in fact everyone was just a little smitten with our lovely girl).
She's had a good bath, trim and thorough brush (plus a manicure ;)) & she's acting like a weight has been lifted! Her gorgeous coat looks better than ever, all shiny & glossy :D It's amazing what just a bit of TLC can do, Dolly's been trotting around the house with her head and tail held high, grinning and prancing around :D
We think she looks years younger angel.gif

Dolly absolutely loves her walkies & is so sprightly I don't think she knows she's 7 ;) ;) She had a lovely long walk this morning, and didn't slow down once (although she is sprawled out on the sofa now, snoring quietly)! She's so inquisitive, loves to get her nose into everything and responds so well to her name when she's on the extending lead in return for a treat!
Who couldn't love this gorgeous girl?

Tidy up & re-write on Dolly's thread. She's still waiting for her forever home although I don't understand why! She's wonderful & has so much love to give! Hopefully it won't be long until her perfect family find her!
-
I can not believe it either she is so pretty I am sure her forever sofa and special family are just around the corner angel.gif
-
Do you think its essential she is rehomed with a resident dog? I cant stop looking at her and reading the updates, but I don't have a dog, just 2 bunnies.... x
-

Hi JillyNay - I'm afraid a resident dog is essential for Dolly. She takes a huge amount of confidence from our dog & gets very stressed and panicky when he's not around. She really does need another dog to watch & learn from as she's so very nervous & unsure of us people!
-
:( OK, thanks for getting back to me, I hope she finds her forever home very soon and gets the love she deserves x

1st post updated :)

Today we've had a massive leap forward with our gorgeous girlie...this happened!:
(Video - click to play
(http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o505/DizzyDinosour/Dolly/th_Vid27thM_zps1737b2c9.jpg) (http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o505/DizzyDinosour/Dolly/Vid27thM_zps1737b2c9.mp4)
It's taken just over two months of building her confidence & lots of recall work in the house and on lead, but today I finally felt ready to let her have a run off lead (in reality she was probably ready waaaay before me!). We waited until the end of the walk, so she was fairly tired out and made sure there was no one around to startle her. Seeing her so happy & behaving so normally was an absolute joy. She responded to her name without hesitation every time and didn't venture far from my side.
Dolly is definitely ready to start the next chapter of her life!
(http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o505/DizzyDinosour/Dolly/27thmarch_zps8fed6b47.jpg) (http://s1145.photobucket.com/user/DizzyDinosour/media/Dolly/27thmarch_zps8fed6b47.jpg.html)
-
Wonderful, it's amazing how she's gaining confidence. Well done Em xx
-
:) :) :) :-*Aw that's fab to hear how well you're doing Dolly, it's great when you can do big zoooooomies eh?, Em you've done soooo well getting her to where she is today.
-
She has come on so much it is great when they go off lead and have lots of fun running around good girl Dolly and good work emm
-
I adore Dolly & check in every day to see if she has been reserved. There really must be someone out there just waiting to find the love of their life :)
-
Clever girl Dolly lots of fun times ahead xxx
-
What a brilliant video, I can't stop watching it! She came such a long way and is now a very happy dog - I have been reading this thread all along and am really pleased for Dolly. You've done an amazing job :-)
-
Ah, thanks for all the lovely comments but all credit has to go 100% to Dolly - I've said it so many times, but her trusting nature astounds us every day. After everything she's been through, no one would blame her for hating us people, but she is just so willing to love you & accept all cuddles she's offered...it's so humbling! Today she enjoyed a full 20 minutes of her walk off lead and had the time of her life.
All she needs is her forever family!
-
Once again I am practically bursting with pride...todays walk was almost completely off lead & we met a gorgeous 8 month old Spaniel with his owner, I initially put Dolly back on her lead as I wasn't sure how she would react but our lovely girl just wanted a fuss. Once she'd had a cuddle, she started play bowing & singing at the Spaniel pup so I let her off lead & got the surprise of my life! Dolly leapt over to him & started running after him and enticing him to chase her! She spent five minutes tearing around like a puppy, playing for the very first time. I just wish I'd thought to get my camera out!
-
Awww Em, you should be so proud. Dolly wouldn't have got this new found confidence if it hadn't been for you, Matt & Dizzy. I feel quite teary to think about how far she's come. Her perfect forever home must surely be along soon.
-
What wonderful news! She really did come out on the other side - magic :-)
-
How is our lovely girl still waiting for her forever home? She has so much love to give & has really come out of her shell in the last few months. She really, really deserves a home of her own after everything she's been through.
-
:( I don't understand either Em as she's such a sweetheart :-*
-
I visited Emily on Sunday and had a lovely welcome from Dolly ;D She is so much happier and less nervous then when she first arrived at Four Paws. She is a gorgeous girl who is now enjoying life with her fab foster brother Dizzy!
-
I can not believe it she is such a pretty girl and a gorgeous colour a little angel angel.gif
-
Dolly will be at the Paws 4 Tea tomorrow at Bassaleg & she's hoping for lots of cuddles :-* angel.gif
-
wahoo! Cant wait to meet you Miss Dolly! :luv:
-
We look forward to meeting you both!!!
(Will take Rumo for a walk in the morning so he'd be a bit calmer ;-))
-
It was a pleasure to meet you today Dolly, you really are such a beautiful girl angel.gif xx
-
Oh wow! Met the delicious Dolly today and wow! this girl is so dainty in the flesh and Peppa size not the lab size I expected.
She is super friendly, well she was to me and I didn't have any treats (Peppa disgusted I forgot the treat bag oops!)
Em and Matt and Dizzy have done wonders with this gorgeous girl. Someone is going to be very lucky xxxxx
-
:-* I had lots of cuddles with Dolly today, me thinks she wanted to help me sell the raffle tickets ;), she's such a sweetheart & would make a wonderful companion :-*
-
;D I met Dolly today...boy her pics dont do her justice! She is a very loving and happy little soul! Dainty too, shes only around spaniel size! She gave me a fantastic cuddles, with paws on my hips and a cracking smile on her face! :-* Someone is really missing out on this muchkin!
-
I am bursting with pride! Our beautiful girl absolutely loved her day out Paws 4 Tea yesterday, she was in her element getting cuddles & fuss of everyone and anyone who walked by!
I never would have believed a few months ago that she would have been able to handle a busy & noisy event so soon, but she is one incredible girl with an amazing spirit. All she wants is to be loved and fussed. She met everyone she came across with confidence & was very polite with all the other dogs. Nothing fazed her!
I am absolutely stumped as to why this gorgeous lady is still waiting for her forever home, she's practically perfect in every way!
-
:) You've every right to feel proud Em, you & Matt have worked wonders with her & looking at her yesterday no-one would realise what she's been through & how far she's come to cope with the 2/4 legged & noise yesterday is one of the biggest test for a doglet & Dolly flew through it angel.gif :-*
-
This girl is gorgeous she was a star yesterday. Dolly is smaller than I thought she was and her colour is beautiful she is lovely
-
I'll have to try and get a picture of Dolly next to Dizzy (if they'll both stay still long enough!) for perspective - as has been said, she's not a very big girl & really quite dainty.
She's becoming more & more affectionate as time goes by, all she wants is to be loved :luv: Here she is today, desperate for some attention :D
