We have recently moved to a temporary address, my home having a huge garden, this one a concrete yard. As my two are 'grass' dogs for wees etc they wont go on concrete. Anyway usually one walk a day and access to the garden at home was enough for them both. On coming here I still took them once a day, not thinking of any consequences. Honey who I adopted from FP has the bladder of an elephant and wasnt asking to go out. Anyway a few times on the walk she would whine and whimper when weeing, after having had a big wee she was fine, but it was the ones after that, which were obviously causing her some pain. Going to the vets with urine sample in hand, a test proved she had a massive amount of crystals in her urine. I told them she wasnt going as much but was holding on, because of the concrete situation. I decided that I would walk them both every 4 hours, I bought a water fountain as I felt they were not drinking much at this new house, whereas at home they would drink lots more. A few days of these regular walks and the fact they drank more, I returned to the vets for a 'big' scan to see if they could view the crystals and look for any stones. There was nothing. Because Honey was holding on to her wee, her body was in fact causing her urine to concentrate, then it started to form crystals, these then caused her pain upon urinating. I have learned that although we may say and expect our dogs can hold on for ages , it is detrimental to their health. Please be aware of this, it is so important for us to know. I have learned an important lesson and felt it was important to let you all know as well.

We had a Westie many years ago that would only wee on grass, like you we had a concrete back yard so we bought a piece of turf from a garden centre, we made a "frame" of house bricks then filled with compost then put turf on top......... happy doglet, let's hope your two will soon be fine.xx
