Stan came into the care of Four Paws through no fault of his own.  He had no name, so we decided on Stan.  He was picked up from kennels this afternoon and brought over to us.   Stan is quite nervous at the moment which is understandable.  He's eating well and taking in all of his new surroundings.   He's a little bit over friendly with my Collie Blackie.  Blackie is having none of it and putting him in his place.   Stan is due to be neutered tomorrow so his over friendliness will stop soon.   I will update as soon as I know more about him.
For now we'll let him rest, it's been an exhausting day :)

Stan settled down lovely last night, he even rolled over to let me tickle his belly.  He has the most silkiest fur I have ever smoothed. You would think he was called Stan as he responds to his name. He is also very obedient.  Poor chap keeps following me into the kitchen waiting for his breakfast.  He's due to be neutered this morning so he's not allowed anything.  His big eyes are so appealing, so hard to resist. :)

Stan was due to be neutered today but the vets have decided to leave it for a later date as he has kennel cough.   He's now on penicillin.  I also made up some ice cubes with cough medicine to help sooth his throat.  His tail is still wagging even though the poor chap is coughing.

Stan is doing really well, the medication from the vets and treats covered in childrens cough medicine has done wonders.  If he gets too excited running around the house he goes into the cage to calm down.  Too much excitement causes him to cough......He has stopped frowning now and it's lovely to see him smile....

Or his favourite position to get his belly rubbed

Stan is gaining confidence daily.   He has realised that he doesn't need to cower any more when we only want to stroke his head, or his chin.  He's a clever boy and only wants to please.  He has so much love to give, and he's so gentle, he wouldn't hurt a fly.

When Stan first arrived he was a nervous wreck....he's still a little bit jumpy, when doors bang or the lid off the bin came off and clattered along the floor...he ran a mile.    He's now getting to the point where he knows he has nothing to fear.  He is quite a comical.  He likes to go under the duvet and pop out the other end, then he goes back again.  Stan really loves his food and I put him seperate from the other dogs as I am sure he would polish theirs off too.   With his love for food I am teaching him to sit, and he takes the food very gently from my hand, he does gobble up his food and is always looking for more.   He's not underweight so I'm just being careful not to feed him too much.

Stan's cough has practically gone now and he gains confidence every day.  He started to play with  teddy this morning which was wonderful to see.   I took him for a little walk just around the street and he walks lovely with his harness.    Stan is the only dog I have ever known that runs away when the lead comes out.   The sight and noise of a lead makes him run off into the garden.   Once I calmed him down and put the lead on him he was fine walking with me.   Lots more practice when he is fully fit will soon teach him how wonderful it is to go for walkies.
