This gentlemen is 3 years old and was found being tied to a tree.
He is microchipped and neutered and a very handsome and friendly dog. His registration is in 'Giles', but he doesn't know that - and since he has a new life now, we gave him a new first name, too (one that rolls smoothly from my poor German tongue... :-)).
Milo arrived in our house yesterday after he had made friends with Rumo on a walk last weekend already. He was very excited to come into the house and investigated every room and every corner. Apparently quite content with what he found, he settled on the HP dog bed under the stairs - until I gave him his very own new bed. That was too much for poor Milo: he couldn't decide where to sleep and after some serious testing picked the one nearest to Rumo:
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN2986_zps9d280831.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN2986_zps9d280831.jpg.html)
Milo is a great dog, very calm and well-behaved. He is responding well to training (learning his name, sit for biscuits.. etc.) and I think he is clever. He is a dream in the car and walks very well on the leash. I am walking him on a harness which works well.
This morning, we went to the park and in an enclosed field I let him from the leash to stretch his long legs a bit. Did he ever! He loves to run and after some zoomies on the grass and some chasing around with Rumo he found his vocation and turned towards squirrels.
His recall is coming on nicely, biscuits help. Milo is not very fit as yet, but we are working on it :-) I think he has never had much fun in his life, but we are working on this, too.
He absolutely adores my husband and I suspect he is more used to living/dealing with men. He is about to learn to play with a ball and also with other dogs - so far, he is watching a lot and I am sure he'll get the hang of these fun activities very soon.
In addition to his rather big tongue, he also has oversized ears:
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3012_zps74237f18.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3012_zps74237f18.jpg.html)
Milo is about as high as a Labrador but slimmer - more built like a collie with rather long legs.
He seems to be happy and starts relaxing into his new environment.
Already, he came a long way from this tree!
-
You are such a handsome boy Milo and very lucky to be a housemate with Rumo. I just love your ears :winktongue: x
-
Lovely write up and pictures Kerstin :)
Is Milo Giles about whippet size or bigger?
-
:) Wow Milo you sure are a cracker, I think you'll grow into those years but I hope your tongue has stopped growing ;) :-*
-
You are gorgeous and I love those ears angel.gif
-
Mr Milo Giles you are sooo handsome! :luv: :luv: :luv:
-
I met Kerstin, Rumo and Milo Giles by the river today. What a fabulous, happy, calm and well behaved boy he is! He is loving his new surroundings and friend, he remembered meeting Shamus before and greeted him like a friend :) he met lots of other dogs in his calm way. He is an absolute star angel.gif
-
Mr Milo has now settled in with us and he is such a pleasure to have around! He is enjoying the sunshine and currently sleeps in the garden after a nice long walk in the morning:
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3014_zps7b9ef214.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3014_zps7b9ef214.jpg.html)
Milo will be coming out to the Tea4Paws event on Saturday.
We hope to meet lots of his fellow foster dogs and their carers :-)
-
Looking forward to meeting you Milo Giles x
-
A quick hallo from Mr Milo, who had such a great afternoon yesterday at the Paws4Tea meeting! He met lots of people - adults and kids - and even more dogs! He greeted everybody nicely and was very friendly and patient, even with certain JRT puppies jumping all over him ;). He made a very nice new friend who bought him some treats, which he really enjoyed - thanks again! :)
Even though Milo was his usual balanced and calm self, all the input tired him out quite a bit yesterday and after a really big walk by the sea today, he is now ready for a serious nap:
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3046_zpse7ffa96b.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3046_zpse7ffa96b.jpg.html)
...still, he keeps an ear open so he doesn't miss the opening of the fridge door :-)
-
Milo is just a perfect dog! He is calm, loving, , gentle, playful and gorgeous ;D he loved the attention at the Paws4Tea and wasn't phased by anything angel.gif
-

Hello, it's Milo :)
I thought it is time for a quick hello from me - can you believe it is already 10 days since I have moved here? What can I tell you: it is a great place where I am now: the people are kind and my foster brother is lots of fun!
It took me a while to get used to my new home, it is very different from where I was before. But I am clever and I soon understand that Rumo, my foster brother, seems to know the rules, so I just do what he does and that is easy, after all, I am a bit of a collie and copying is in my nature....
The people are lovely, they gave me my own bed, and a collar and lots of things and they gave me a nice new name. I am Milo now and I really like it - but they seem to be a bit confused because they call me GoodBoy all the time. Do I have two new names???
There was a little problem at first with the indoor bushes. You know, they have plants in the living room and everywhere and I thought: well, that is convenient for a rainy day! But Mum told me that I must not use the indoor bushes in the way I do the garden bushes.... Ah, okay, I won't now :)
Rumo is fab, I don't understand everything he does and he puzzles me a bit - he is nice to me, mind, lets me have his toys and doesn't mind if I sleep in his bed, but he won't let me finish his food. Shame - I like food! Mum gives me lots of tasty crunchy food, very good for my teeth and also other chewy sticks. At first I found them difficult to eat but I am getting better all the time. I also get slimmer and fitter day by day. Mum takes us to the park and to lots of nice places and both people take us out for long walks on the weekend. I don't really understand that, they have such a nice house and garden, but they seem to like to go to other places. Well, I am not complaining, it is all great fun and I love it.
In the mornings I ran around the park after Rumo. Not sure why he does that, but it is fun. We sometimes see little fluffy animals, but they are soooo quick! The roundish ones vanish into the ground and the long-tail ones run up trees! That get's Rumo going, I tell you, he barks and jumps around the tree like a mad dog :) I don't, I just watch them fluffies running around the branches...
In the evenings, when Dad is home, we go to a big field and Dad throws balls at Rumo. I don't know why they do that, but Rumo seems to like it and he takes the ball back to him in his mouth... I only watch them, or go sniffing, and when the ball (or Rumo) comes my way, I dodge them...
We go out at least three times a day, can you believe it? Sometimes Mum takes us in the car - I really like the car! She opens the tailgate and says "hopp" and both Rumo and I jump in. I always lay down in the car and doze and when we arrive, Mum opens the gate and says "stop" and we wait for her to put the leashes on our collars and then she says "hopp" and we jump out. I really like those things, I feel good when I know what they want me to do. They call me GoodBoy then...
When we are in the park or in the wood or in some other places, Mum lets me off my leash. I don't mind the leash but I don't think I really need it but it seems to make Mum feel better to use it alongside roads. When I am off, I always keep an eye out for Mum. I don't want her to get lost, you know. That would be terrible, I really like living with them, even though they all have some funny habits ;).
The weirdest thing of all is their obsession with dog beds! You won't believe it but they are everywhere in the house, at least one in every room! They really want me to feel at home and for Rumo and me to be comfy - and that's why I don't understand that we are not allowed on the sofa, nor in the bed! I think I remember sleeping on sofas in my past - and I did it once when Mum was out...hehe. But when she came home she found me out and told me off :(. Aw well, I don't want her to be cross with me and after all, there are lots of nice alternatives...
So, that was a rather long report from my new life. I could carry on for hours but I must catch up with some sleep now, I had a fun morning again and am tired now.
Look at this picture of me by the river - does it make your eyes water?
See you soon, Milo Giles :)

Milo came to Cwmbran Big Event yesterday and was a total star as usual angel.gif He is such a calm and gentle boy, nothing fazes him at all. He met so many adults, children and dogs with the same happy disposition, he is faultless!
-
Yes he is definitely '1 cool dude' 8) angel.gif
-
;D ;D ;D Well done Milo, hopefully someone saw you there & fell in love with you :-*
-
TAATAAAAAA!!!
Just in time for the World Cup, Mr Milo becomes a ball player!
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3171_zps9e021f17.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3171_zps9e021f17.jpg.html)
This must be one of the most heart-warming moments in fostering Milo: he has now started to sprint after a ball in true greyhound fashion and then carries it around proudly!
He also plays tug-o-war with Rumo (who is very fair and doesn't throw his full weight in so that Milo stands a chance!).
(http://i1025.photobucket.com/albums/y315/kstumpf1/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3180_zps8b1080d6.jpg) (http://s1025.photobucket.com/user/kstumpf1/media/4%20Paws%20June/Milo/DSCN3180_zps8b1080d6.jpg.html)

-
Lovely pics, great to see Milo playing with Rumo x
-
;D Aw that's fantastic & well done Rumo for being gentle with Milo angel.gif :-*
-
Yesterday Kerstin and I were discussing Milo not knowing how to play. Well he obviously heard me say that he probably would start when he was ready ;D. As you say Kerstin, it really is a great feeling when they start playing, Milo obviously feels safe and loved in his foster home!
-
Milo's Assessment Period is over and he passed it with flying EARS!

Hi Everyone, this is Gill, Milo's new mum. Cant wait for him to be with me. Got lots of walks planned for us. Just got back from Pets at Home and have a big cupboard full of food, treats, biscuits, dentastix, chewey bone, new collar, new tag, poop bags and a big special food bin to keep it all safe just in case he turns into a Houdini and works out the combination lock on the kitchen cupboard.....lol Milo is such a sweetie and he's gonna be spoiled (but only with love and walks, not food and bad sweeties). Counting the hours now Kerstin till I pick him up tomorrow. Thank you so much for picking us and for looking after Milo so well, hes GORGEOUS. xxx
-
;D I hope you'll be able to sleep tonight Gill ;)xxxx
-
I love a happy ending. Milo you are a sweetie and now you have your forever sofa with Gill. Good luck for tomorrow.
Well done Kerstin x
-
Thank you everybody for your lovely comments!
Milo is a wonderful dog and was a very rewarding foster experience - to watch him coming out of his shell, starting to trust and show affection and eventually even to play with toys and with other dogs was an experience I don't want to miss. He is great company and I feel privileged to have housed this gorgeous boy and to help him on his way.
I am convinced that Milo found his perfect home with Gill and they will make each other very happy.
In fact, it has started already... :)
Yes, I will be sad when he leaves, but I couldn't wish for a better place for him to go to :)
-
Sounds perfect, Milo is such a sweet boy, well done Kirsten and thank you Gill for giving Milo a happy forever after.x
-
I have watched Milo's progress from the day I picked him up until now and he must think he is in heaven!
His journey in rescue has been full of wonderful things and people (and doggy friends :)) and it will definitely continue with Gill and her lovely family ;D
