Betty has been with us since Friday 20th June. Betty is a lovely, sweet girl but a slow warmer, as she gets a little worried by people! We can only imagine what has happened to her but she has had a difficult time and will try to move away from strangers but is happy to greet us now and have cuddles and be stroked. She is also happy to have ears and mouth checked. She will come forward occasionally and sniff strangers hands but isn't ready to be stroked by strangers yet but she has only been with us a few days and is making good progress.
She seems very small for a mastiff cross as the vets have aged her 5-6 months but her behaviour is of a much younger pup apart from she is extremely continent! I don't think she is going to be very big, although she does have large, webbed feet, perhaps a duck cross! ^-^ :) ;)
There are lots of positives with Betty;
•She is clean in her crate during both the day and night
•She is very quiet apart from a very occasional couple of little whimpers
•She doesn't chew anything, not even her toys (she does like a stuffed activity toy though)
•She is very gentle whilst taking treats
•She will eat dry or wet food
•She doesn't scrounge for food
•She doesn't seem to have any resource guarding issues around food or toys
•She has been very polite around my older dogs
•She walks nicely on the lead
•She will sit rather than jump up
•She isn't worried by household noises
•She travels well. Prefers the front seat but will also travel in a crate
•She is good to bath
•She has a good recall in an enclosed area
I think what Betty ideally needs is;
•A calm, confident owner
•Careful socialisation to people and dogs. Not forced socialisation and to be flooded. You would need to be prepared to go at her pace.
•Not to be allowed to over attach as this wouldn't be beneficial to her long-term as you may cause her to have separation anxiety which she doesn't have at present. She is happy to be left for a couple of hours in her crate
•Probably not a house without younger children who may grab at her
And above all Betty needs an understanding, committed and loving owner. I am happy top provide free dog training classes and behavioural support for Betty once she is in her new home. I think this girl could blossom with into an amazing dog with a little effort from new owners. She is a very special, loyal and loving little girl and if you can meet her needs she will repay you ten fold.
We will upload some photos asap
The minimum adoption donation for Betty is £150.
Betty is currently undergoing a 14 day assessment and will be ready for rehoming from 4/7/2014. Applications are welcome during the assessment period.

What a very interesting write up for Betty. I have met this little girl and she was such an unhappy pup in kennels. I am very glad she is in foster and getting on fine - I am sure with some patience she will grow into a confident and happy dog.
Look forward to the updates... and the pictures please! :)

Betty is turning into a puppy! She will now play with a toy in the garden! As she becomes more brave her personality is shining through and she is a really lovely girl. I can now hold her collar and she doesn't panic. She greets us and is pleased to see us in the morning. She has been a very easy puppy to foster but will need understanding to continue to get the very best from her. She is such a lovely girl and very cuddly once she know you. We feel very privileged that she now trusts us and it has taken a very short time. We hope someone will fall in love with her, best get some photos up!
