This girl will come into our care from the council if not claimed by her owners by the 8th Dec. She is a pretty black girl, only a bit shy at the moment. (Due 8. Dec)

What a lovely girl she is too so happy to be out of Kennels.
-
Lovely lab x girl is now called Suzy. She's already made herself at home, had a bath and her dinner - not to mention a ton of treats. I promise I'll be a LITTLE less generous with the treats tomorrow.......... ;D (wink wink). We'll update as we get to know Suzy more but suffice to say "I think I'm in luuuuuurve". One slight concern - she's not had a pee yet, despite many trips to the garden and a nice long walk - surely she can't hold out much longer??
-
Well Suzy you have had a busy day, a lovely bath and lots of treats and a long walk. Looking forward to seeing pics :)
-
Don't worry, Layla didn't pee all day when she came out of kennels! She eventually did at about 11pm, behind a Bush!
-
Some dogs are very "private" about toileting, I had a Westie many years ago that would only wee on grass & wouldn't poo if you were watching her ::)

Suzy settled in well considering all that she had gone through yesterday. We were followed constantly whenever we moved at first but this is easing off a bit today. Suzy loves a fuss making of her - at least I think she does. She certainly presses into your hand as you scrat behind the ears or at the base of her tail, but she does seem a little unsure. She's happy to have a nap on her blanket in the living room and doesn't seem overly restless.
We had just a few wimpers at bed time, lasting no more than a minute, then it was sleepy-time. Unfortunately, she made a big mess in her bed/crate, which I'm thinking could well be a accumulation of all the excitement, visit to the vets for micro chipping and coming to us, being bathed and wormed! To be honest, I'm thinking of just leaving her bed in the kitchen rather than crate her tonight. I'm 99.9% certain she's not a chewer so I think it's worth taking a chance.
She's been out for a few good walks (one last night and 2 so far today) and is a delight to walk on the lead after the first few minutes of excitement. Suzy is very interested in dogs coming towards her, she'll stop and watch them approach, but when they arrive she's quite nervy. She's okay with a nose-nose greeting but sits down if the other dog wants to sniff anywhere else or becomes a little too fussy. She's every man and woman's best friend though!
We've been to the Vets today and had the first vaccination done. The next one is due in 2-4 weeks. Suzy isn't yet happy to lay/sit without a comforting hand so a passenger is needed unless she's crated. We've had 3 short journeys in the car so she is getting used to it slowly.
Suzy did pick a bit at her dinner last night but I had overdone it a bit with the treats, so that was probably to be expected. She's really enjoyed tonight's dinner and I've curbed my over-enthusiasm for the treat box.
Poor little mite doesn't have a clue what to do with toys - she has a sniff then backs away from them. We managed to introduce her to a plush elephant which she threw around the room for a minute for two.
I'll update Suzy's thread over the next few days as we get to know her character/needs a little better.
-
Aw bless her, so many new things to learn. Once she realises she's safe and loved she should relax :)
-
:-* It sounds like she's settling really well considering she's only just arrived, she sounds like she wants to interact & that's a good sign, I bet in a week or two's time you'll see a different girl blossoming :-*
-
Suzy now has a homing thread under foster dogs so I will lock this thread. Look forward to hearing more about her as she settles in, sounds like she's doing well so far :)

Sounds like she's doing really well she clearly already trusts you!! Bet she will be playing with all the toys before you know it and then she will be becoming the dog she was always meant to be!!
