  UPDATE: 22/4/16
We were originally told that Simba had 80% vision in her remaining eye, however after observing her over the time she has been with us we felt her vision was nowhere near this much. We have had a thorough check up of her eye done and the Vet confirmed that in his opinion her remaining vision is very minimal. This is due to damage to the retina and optic nerve caused presumably by the severe head trauma she received in the accident where she lost her other eye. It is very hard to believe her sight is so poor as she gets around the house and garden as well as the other dogs but if something is moved or changed she does bump into things. Eyesight is less important than the sense of smell and hearing to dogs and she certainly copes very well!  Due to this she will need a special family who are prepared to take the extra care she needs.

(UPDATE:  13/3/16
Seeing how much Simba loves her foster brothers and takes support from them where her vision lacks, we feel she would be happier in a forever home where she either has doggy company or someone who is about most of the time.)

Simba is undergoing a two week assessment and will be available for re-homing from 18th January. Applications are welcome during this time.
Minimum adoption fee £150.
Details of our adoption procedures and adoption application form are http://forum.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.php/board,21.0.html

More photos on Lloydies Furry Lodgers Facebook page.

Here she is with the boys hoping for a tasty something!
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160105_110917_zpsdaavm4sy.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160105_110917_zpsdaavm4sy.jpg.html)

Simba gave birth to pups two weeks ago but rejected them, she then developed a serious uterine infection so had an emergency spay operation.  Her owners felt she would be better being signed over to Four Paws so she came home to us from the vets yesterday.  She has lost a lot of condition while having the pups and is very thin. I am going to feed her three meals a day to try to put some weight on her now and she will only be having short walks while she still has stitches in. Her teats are still swollen and look uncomfortable so she is having lots of quiet time and cuddles to help her feel better.

Simba is a lovley natured girl and has settled in already as if she has always been here! She and Dougal gave each other a polite sniff when they first met and are fine together. Heathcliff was a little less polite in his greetings but Simba laid down a few ground rules and he is respecting them!
She is very soft and loves to be cwtched up as close as she can get to you and has taken a real shine to my daughter Rhiannon - think its mutual!

Simbas previous owners tell us that she had an accident about a year ago which resulted in her losing one eye and having reduced vision in the other.
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/received_757787307686546_zpsmhfs1eje.jpeg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/received_757787307686546_zpsmhfs1eje.jpeg.html)
She doesn't seem to be bothered by it too much but is alarmed by sudden noises coming from her blind side and has a tendancy to bump in to things particularly as she is turning.  Her depth perception is a little poor so things like coming down stairs seem to be a little tricky for her and she doesn't always see things straight away.

She slept next to my bed last night and I didn't hear a sound from her all night!
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160104_224952_zpsnxnzoucx.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160104_224952_zpsnxnzoucx.jpg.html)

Simba asks to go to the garden when she needs to and is very gentle when taking treats, she accepts having her paws wiped when she comes in from the wet but was rather upset yesterday evening when she fell in the pond! Rhiannon thought she was going to get a drink from it but she obviously hadn't been able to see it in the dark and just walked straight into it - we quickly toweled her off and wrapped her up to keep her warm and she was fine.

We were told that she has been used for rabbiting in the past and is therefore not suitable to be homed with cats or other small furries.  We did try a controlled introduction with a cat today but it was clearly not going to be successful - so cats are a definite no!

Here's Heathcliff trying to be friends...or maybe he just wanted to be in the photo!

Simba has relaxed a lot more now and is clearly starting to feel better after her op, she even made a few lets play moves towards Heathcliff this morning....but in the end they went back to bed!

Simba is such a lovely girl, she really is! She loves to give kisses and thinks waking Rhi and Huw in the mornings by slobbering kisses all over them is brilliant fun, when I get up she runs to their bedroom doors in excitement!
I don't know if it's to do with having had pups recently but Simba has adopted a stuffingless squeaky fox toy which she carries around with her, she wouldn't settle in bed last night then I realised she didn't have Foxy.....found him....straight to sleep!
She is getting on really well with my dogs and even had a little tuggy game with Heathcliff yesterday. We took them all out for a walk together and HC behaved atrociously, I was worried that it might upset her but she ignored him completely! She is fine with any other dogs and also completely ignored the cows in the field behind us who were up near the fence today.
I have noticed that if she is walking with another dog she likes to have them on her blind side, maybe it reassures her that she is safer from anything on that side. I think her vision is poorer than we were lead to believe - very poor in the dark and her pupil is fully dilated all the time - if you look at the photos her eye reflects much more than either Dougals or HCs. As I said before however her limited vision doesn't appear to bother her at all as long as she goes carefully and doesn't rush at things.

Turn the light off!

A level Biology is a little too complicated...

Simba is very good around food and sits quietly without trying to pinch anything in the hope that she will get a little something for being a good girl!
Chip shop chicken and chips.....please?

We want a very special forever home for this gorgeous girlie because she deserves it, regardless of anything she's been through all she wants is love, kindness and cuddles, she really is an absolute treasure xx

:) :) :) :) It never fails to amaze me when dogs lose their sight, they cope much better than I think us humans would, my Ruby was almost blind before she had her cataracts done, "our" fabulous Fred was blind & Penny's (Frankiebee) Ruby lost 1 eye & then her 2nd & she still did agility angel.gif

We have been for a walk along the sea wall this morning and tried Simba off lead. She was fantastic! Had a run around with Heathcliff but never went too far from us and came back when we called. She didn't like it when Dougal and HC had a wrestling game and hid behind me but was quite prepared to send HC off when he tried to wrestle with her!(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160109_113404_zpsuibn5k6t.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160109_113404_zpsuibn5k6t.jpg.html)(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160109_113409_zpsqojs2ere.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160109_113409_zpsqojs2ere.jpg.html)

Simba is continuing to prove that she is really no trouble at all! She is calm and quiet in the house, she walks nicely on the lead when out and greets everyone politely, she sleeps well through the night, asks to go out to the garden, eats what she is given and is generally a star dog....she also loves a cuddle!
Simba and Dougal out on a walk discussing something interesting:
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160113_112249_zpsb0jblup1.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160113_112249_zpsb0jblup1.jpg.html)
We took Simba to the Vets yesterday to have her first vaccinations, the Vet said she was healing well from her spay and seemed in good health otherwise, besides the low weight. She thought it would take her quite a while to get over the pregnancy, pups, the infection and spay, especially as she is so thin. Small extra meals, lots of TLC, limited exercise and she should be fine.  Simba behaved very well in the Vets and settled down in reception for a doze:
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160112_154910_zpsspmni6nz.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160112_154910_zpsspmni6nz.jpg.html)
Simbas favourite past-time however is sleeping, especially if she can cwtch up with someone else!:

I know I'm repeating myself but she really is a lovely dog and someone will be very lucky to have her join their family xx

Our doggy neighbour Bertie the King Charles came for a sleepover last night. He and Simba have been absolutely fine together, when he arrived she fell over him twice before she realised he was there - He kept getting on her blind side where she couldn't see him!(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160117_095100_zpsefwnc2xb.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160117_095100_zpsefwnc2xb.jpg.html)

What is it with Lurchers and rain? We had a very wet walk this morning - Simba and HC were both convinced that they were going to dissolve..... maybe they are both made of sugar! They are now dried off and dozing on the sofa with Dougal and Bertie.
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160117_141033_zpsb7i66wsf.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160117_141033_zpsb7i66wsf.jpg.html)
She does wake up occasionally!

And is then usually found hanging around the kitchen door with Heathcliff...what a skinny pair, they both eat like horses!

Big step forward today! Although Simba is fine with Dougal and HC she doesn't interact with them very much - she will share Dougals bed and cuddle with them both and if HC runs to bark at the door she follows him.... but today.......

Simba and Heathcliff are now known as the "Skinny Twinnies".....they seem to be together most of the time and if one comes to see what you are doing the other is never far behind! Simba is proving to be quite a calming influence on HC when out as she really isn't bothered by anything and just trots along beside you on the lead. Off lead they have a good run together and Simba flattened HC completely the other day by running straight into him!
She is very affectionate and loves to give kisses and have cuddles.  She greets everyone very nicely and seems to accept whatever happens. She is a little wary of brooms and mops but isn't worried about the Hoover or noisy things.
Simba will be going for her second lot of vaccinations next week and a weight check to see if she has gained more....though I'm pretty sure she has as she looks so much better.  Once her vaccs are all done we thought we might take her to Action Petz to see how she gets on with more dogs and people in a different environment.
Someone is missing out by not giving this girl her Forever Home, she's waiting very patiently and she is getting lots of love in the meantime x

Simba and I had a game of chase, ball and tuggy in the garden...sorry, in the mud....today. She prefers to play with people than other dogs, she tends to lose sight of things when the others are rushing about so is better one to one when she can concentrate on the toys. (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/Sally_Lloyd/20160204_130035_zpsftvajaej.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/Sally_Lloyd/media/20160204_130035_zpsftvajaej.jpg.html)

Simba went to the vets this afternoon for her second vaccinations and was very well behaved and charming.  We weighed her and she has put on just over 2 kgs!! since her first vaccinations - she is still very skinny but does look remarkably better already.
This lovely girl must have a Forever sofa out there somewhere!

I was out with Simba the other day and a little boy asked if he could stroke her, I said "Yes; but come this side so she can see you as she only has one eye." He asked where the other eye was and I told him that she had lost it in an accident....."Did she fall over and then couldn't find it or did she just forget where she put it?"

You have to love kids!

Simba had an adventure today.....she went to Action Petz!  I was a little nervous of how she would cope as too much going on at once does make her slightly fearful simply because she can't see everything - however she was fine!  It was very quiet so she could take her time with the few dogs that were there and we had arranged to meet our lovely ex-foster Layla and her Mum.  Simba and Layla got on really well as you can see by the pics  :D

Well......my lovely girl is hopefully on her way to her new Forever Home this weekend.  She is going to be by far the hardest to say Goodbye to....I will admit I'm crying already. I know though that she is going to be so well looked after and loved that it's good to let her go. She will leave a big hole in our family but she will be filling an equally big hole in her new owners life.  Simba has been with us for the best part of 5 months and is a different dog completely to the skinny, poorly scrap that came home with us from the vets. Kirsty had asked us to collect her and drop her off at the kennels....I often wondered whether she asked us as she knew we wouldn't be able to leave her -  And I'm so glad we didn't!

It's such fabulous news for this wonderful girl. Congratulations on doing such a fantastic job with her. It will be hard to let her go, but you've given her such a loving foster home and got her ready for a new life!  angel.gif

:) :) :) :) :) :) Oh yes, some fosters don't half take the biggest chunk of our hearts when they go to their new family, Simba is one of those extra special ones, she's been with you longer than most & had such a bad start in life, that's the negatives out of the way as you've given her such an amazing life, she's gained a lot of love & confidence from you that's enabled her to go onto the next chapter in her book of life, time for more cuddles & spoiling ;)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
