I've split this off into a discussion topic on it's own - although I think we probably have something similar under fundraising .... Jo
I guess we need to consider other potential venues as the key is getting the word out, i wonder what would work?

Pugh's Garden Centre just down the road from me is always busy as soon as the sun starts shining so I'll go & speak to them to see if we could do a 'Homes' event or a Meet & Greet?
-
Great news we need to get other pah covered. Newport and cwmbran have not been done for awhile.
-
The new shops around Leckwith stadium spring to mind. I know they're not pet shops but there is an Asda's down there and there is a large covered walkway for us to shelter under if the weather was bad. That doesn't preclude us from walking around the area :dunno: 'cause there's a very popular Hobbycraft down there as well as a Next Home M&S foods I think plus a Costco SCS ..

That sounds like a good option... I don't think they have to be places with pet stores just places that would be happy to have us ;D The hobbycraft I used to go to in Portsmouth way had a pet department and Next do a range of Pet stuff so perhaps they would be two options to contact?

Style Gardens at Wenvoe (west Cardiff) is similar a Garden Centre to Caerphilly , only bigger.

On same site is Maidenheadaquatics, Countrywidefarmers and WFT Buidings (log cabins, summerhouses etc)

what ideas did you have re walking around - collecting money here
-
Yes, as the others have said lovely venue, just as it is in an industrial production area, people are specifically going to Petwise, as there is nothing else.

was the same when I did a M&G there as well - some events don't need passing trade really just as Llanishen doesn't and some other PAH are in odd places, eg Bridgend PAH appears to be on its own

I suppose so Penny - don't know if it has the same rules as the city centre but a couple of people could be there as it's quite a large area and lots of movement around the shops on weekends

Would it be better to approach one shop as a base, say Hobbycraft as an example? I don't know if that would be easier to get off the ground rather than needing to get a license for an area? You could always then ask whether other shops if they are a bit further would be happy to display a poster saying where you are?

We would need licenses from the Council + another from Highways as its pedestrianised + another from the management company who own it + when you do a 'street' collection you can't walk around either (and have to be 25 metres apart) - at Llanishen PAH we're only allowed to collect inside their store
-
They like to make it easy don't they! Would it be easier to go somewhere like a big asda or tesco etc. not linked to other shops (and therefore I assume own the carpark too?) or have I read somewhere that they're difficult to get?
-
Awaiting dates from tesco meant to be a priority for july to dec dates. Also pen was going to contact asda.
-
I knew someone would be on the ball with those! I'll try to think of something original... :tumble:
What about popular beaches or parks in the summer? I guess they'd need a council licence (and good weather)? Barry Island (don't know it particularly well but maybe there's somewhere there)? Outside a stadium on a busy day (although the dogs prob wouldn't like that so may need a fake dog)? Motorway services?
-

have done and they all came back as a no
-
We had a collection at Newport Gwent Dragons once, so it might be worth looking into rugby and football stadiums.
Like others have said there are also Newport and Cwmbran PAH but I'm not sure if we have anyone out that way now?
-
Are there any big farm shops, farmers markets we could get a stall at? Like this - http://www.riversidemarket.org.uk/ or this http://www.thornhillfarm.co.uk/ Obviously these are just ones I found on google...
A few rescues seem to be having m&g's etc at Countrywide stores anything like that or similar? We have one called Mole Falley Farmers but I think that's just the south west.
-
Farmers Markets - listed here http://www.fmiw.co.uk/?function=marketsbyregion
Re above post - I will ask about Cowbridge Farmers Market, Vale of Glamorgan, only 10am - 1pm every other Saturday. but they advertise as "All products sold have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stall holder" and with food there would be no dogs - so this one is a definite non starter.

Style garden centre that Lynne mentioned is attached to a countrywide. I know they accept charities but don't know if they're full or not (Style is better for space though).

There's a farmers market in middle of Caerphily and another in Cowbridge every so often - both good areas
-

I guess the other option is a street collection on the same day as a farmers market if that is feasible?

Penny - see above re Cowbridge Farmers Market - looked into it am today :)
Em - re street collection - have shopped there frequently and never seen a street collection
Julie update Farmers market held in private car park behing the main street. The main street is full of very upmarket shops referred to in Cardiff Guide book as "the Bond Street of South Wales" - tiny pavements, that are difficult to negotiate with ordinary shoppers- can well see why there are no street collections in the main street. At Christmas they have to shut off the whole street for the parade which involves live reindeers shipped in from Lapland. But will enquire next time I am there. :)
-
I'd check with them all the same if the farmers markets are in the street then it;s worth finding out if street collections are allowed it;s only if they are in enclosed halls that dogs wouldn't be allowed. The St Fagans farmer market was outside the museum and dogs were around :)
How about St Fagans

St Fagans might be a good one Julie as you can take your dogs in and everytime we've been there with kids & dogs there's been quite a few dog owners there ;D, they even provide poobags ;D
-
I guess at the moment it's a case of looking at options and places volunteers are happy to go to, so if you think St Fagans is one then go ahead and ask ;D
You have to realise all these places mean very little to someone so far from the bridge, I only do Cardiff, Newport and now Pengam (as have stayed at the hotel :rofl1: )

will have to give you a map from Christmas Em
Re Riverside market - that one is outside - its alongside the River Taff opposite the Millennium Stadium
Cardiff do these little stall things in town (outside in the Hayes/near St Davids Hall or just off Queen Street as well) but I think they charge £30 - these are ones that you'd have to really sell better quality stuff or at least brand new + they are outside so you could take a dog with you - they're those red/white striped little tent things.
There's also Splott market - Thursdays and Saturdays I think - we can do carboot stuff there or cheap pet stuff sold at a profit from Batleys or similar.
-
During my exstensive travelling over th last week I have spotted quite a few people collecting at service stations!

Even if I know the place names Pen, i pronounce them completely wrong :dunno:
I guess for £30 if we could do promotional stuff, a collection bucket and sell some stuff from batleys and maybe Maggies beds, bandanas etc it might be worth giving it a go?
Service stations are a good idea Seran. People might like a therauputic face wash from a dog...
-
Rail stations are good as well - you need really large buckets for them so people can chuck and run as they go past you
Plus there's the millennium stadium - will ask Annie (annother annie I know) who to contact
I have tried to get a collection done at the ice hockey but the guy just wouldn't answer my calls
Street collections - Cardiff (11 June), Caerphilly, Newport, Swansea, Blackwood (+ do PAH at same time), Monmouth, Bristol(?), Oxford(?)
-

St Fagan's is really easy to get to Em, its off Junc 33 M4 , & onto the link Rd down to Cardiff Bay (A4232) & its got its own turn off ;D

My Ex's family literally run the show at the hockey Penny & I know we wouldn't do well at that one :-\ :rage:

I live here and according to my mum I still pronounce them wrongly ;) I blame my parents taking me out of Wales when I was 9

I have been speaking to Ted's new owner and he does a lot with the Canal Trust, he suggested that we book a date at Fourteen Locks in Newport. This is always a very busy place with dog walkers and people in general. They do have the RSPCA there now and again and they generate a fair amount of money there.
I do think this maybe better for possibly the spring, they do however have a room that could be used if we needed it. The manager has 2 rescue dogs himself so saving rescues is pretty close to his heart.
Don't know what everyone thinks about this ?
-
Sounds good Sam, not idea of the location but could it be tied in with providing refreshments if there isn't anything there and the room could manage that? Or even microchipping?
-
Sounds a great idea, don't know where it is but sounds a lovely location for the spring ;D
-
Great idea & sounds an ideal location
-
Helen (Tommy on here) has offered to do PAH Cwmbran if anyone can advise her on how to go about organising this?

A PM to Penny (Frankiebeee) is probably the best option.
-
Seems Pugh's is going through some changes over the next few months re car parking and buildings so they've said they can't give us the gazebo space during the move round... There is a spot to the left of their main door and one between their exit doors that may be suitable so I'll leave it a week or 2 and then go back with a different suggestion and see what they say. Otherwise we won't be allowed back till September.
-
Never mind Julie thank you for your efforts   and hopefully we will get to stand by the doors soon ;D
-
Although a Newbie, I live in Cwmbran and will ask PAH if they will let us have an event. Why not hand out flyers at bootsale, other events and while out walking the dogs !!!! This is how I started my successful business.

Thanks. I do the sorting out of Meet and greets at pets at home but we don't have any volunteers to actually lead an event there - another member who's no longer with us used to lead this one so we're looking for someone else (will need an experience four paws member to go along though so we have a vol). Its only a small venue though.
I and some others carry flyers with us when we walk dogs but I don't push them on to people - only if we stop to chat I will dig them out if its appropriate (I don't want people to start avoiding me because I might shove a leaflet in their faces - especially as I avoid people like this myself in town)
Car boots might be a good start though if anyone willing to do it - but not sure how it works re carboot organiser (at our own shows we make people give a donation to do this)
-
Has anyone thought of the Out of the Woods event in Cardiff? Run by the council on Sun 21st Aug they seem to be having a dog show there this year! More info at www.cardiff.gov.uk/butepark.
-
Its booked already ;D

Bev
-
Sorry Frankie Beee. I have only just read your reply. I can do Cwmbran PAT as live only 5 mins away. I have alot of experience of running stalls, raffles, tombolas etc. RE car bootsales, in Cwmbran you just pay to get in and can do a display and sell doggy items etc. It works really well. Other charities do it i.e. All Creatures. Will wait to her from you when and time.
Best wishes
Bev

There's a Countrywide in Bridgend which someone has already mentioned - they have a garden centre and aquatics section. There are few local-ish if you look at their map of stores. http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/ They sometimes have special promotions so they may be worth checking out.
Or there is a Scats in Bridgend : http://www.scatscountrystores.co.uk/ - this is a fairly new store.
Trying to think outside of the box how about the Bridgend Designer Outlet?
-
Sorry for the newbie post and please ignore it if its been mentioned but there is a PAH recently opened in Port Talbot too. Could you maybe have a M&G there? x
-
What about the Usk show? it's usually a biggie. We were there last year. Had to see the falconry display and Mass found it fascinating. The person next to us was picked to help out. She climbed over the fence to get into the arena so Mass though he could do the same. I managed to stop him before he got over the fence but he spent most of the rest of the display with his paws on the top rail. He even got a mention from the guy doing the demonstration.

How about something in Merthyr Tydfil - nice shopping centre - events in Cyfarthfa Park - nice people?
-
What about the shopping outlet at Ebbw Vale. Can help there if needed.
-
What about the new humongous Tesco in NEWPORT? Loads of people traffic.
Rachael
-
That's just up the road from where I work - it is always packed out with people - plus all the other customers going to Hobbycraft, Homebase etc.
-
Ah yes, that Tesco too...I was thinking of the new huge Spytty Road one though, customers trapped inside huge big lass doors, lovely big entrance hall for us all to settle in, right at the bottome of the stairs so peeps have to pass us :rofl1:
