General Chat / Dorothy Parker knew her dogs
« Last post by BinnieB on Today at 09:36:28 »
I heard this on Poetry Please on the radio tonight. I always associate Dorothy Parker with sayings like "Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses" and wry laments that where men give other women jewellery all they ever give her is one perfect rose. But there's obviously a lot more to her.  Does this remind you of a dog near you?  I can see those with me now and those at the rainbow bridge in every line. It makes me value and miss them even more. Lovely - and also blimin' funny, especially the last line.

Verse for a Certain Dog

Such glorious faith as fills your limpid eyes,
Dear little friend of mine, I never knew.
All-innocent are you, and yet all-wise.
(For Heaven's sake, stop worrying that shoe!)
You look about, and all you see is fair;
This mighty globe was made for you alone.
Of all the thunderous ages, you're the heir.
(Get off the pillow with that dirty bone!)

A sceptic world you face with steady gaze;
High in young pride you hold your noble head,
Gaily you meet the rush of roaring days.
(Must you eat puppy biscuit on the bed?)
Lancelike your courage, gleaming swift and strong,
Yours the white rapture of a winged soul,
Yours is a spirit like a Mayday song.
(God help you, if you break the goldfish bowl!)

"Whatever is, is good" - your gracious creed.
You wear your joy of living like a crown.
Love lights your simplest act, your every deed.
(Drop it, I tell you- put that kitten down!)
You are God's kindliest gift of all - a friend.
Your shining loyalty unflecked by doubt,
You ask but leave to follow to the end.
(Couldn't you wait until I took you out?)

Not trying to be brave at all really but must confuse the hell out of people as I might tell them or they might ask and am probably quite matter of fact - then I realised that deep down my brain is finding it hard to think its true even though my heart is telling me otherwise and that there's a huge hole in there so its confusing the hell out of my system

Its that awful thing where little things set you off but something in me doesn't quite feel she's gone - came home with the dogs and was about to call her and see where she was
It goes on for months and months, Penny. I still look for Cassie every time I open the fridge door because I just know she will be there, trying to push past to inspect the contents. So it's tears at stupid times, especially when I wake up in the morning and there is only one dog bed in the hall. I think trying to be brave is just pants.  There's no way you could get over a lass as special as Roobs easily: she was your first dog in your Cardiff home, wasn't she? She hasn't really gone anyway - she'll always be a part of your life, won't she? It's just that the balance of the memories changes from the sad times to the happy ones.  Big wraparound hug - you and she were so much part of each other that it must be really tough.  You are entitled to cry and Simon and I are both thinking about you and wishing we could help. xxxx

Quite quiet today maybe because of the weather, it was so very cold and showers. Still as usual met some lovely people, the puppies were a huge hit as usual as was gorgeous NIkki. Mindy is adorable and had a lot of interest. But I must say newbie Dodger stole my heart he is a cheeky little man who just lapped up the attention of canine and human friends such a friendly little boy who wasn't short of interest in himself.

Just thawing out and will let post amount raised when I can feel my fingers!!!!!
Julie tools some photos and is going to post soon.
