Hello I'm Maggie, I'm a foster carer for Four Paws Animal Rescue.
Let me tell you a bit about myself, I'm 60yrs.old, a widow & live on my own ( children have flown the nest ) apart from my 3 yorkies, cockatiel & rabbit !!!.
I started fostering last March & have had various dogs for various amounts of time since then, some for a day or two, a week or two & one for 3 months. I prefer the smaller dogs ( perhaps because I'm only 4ft 10ins.), I tend to have them short term if the fosterer it's going to lives far away & transport has to be arranged.
I also sometimes pick up from the local pound as I'm the nearest.
I help out at the dog shows, make things to sell, I enjoy making dog beds (so I'm always on the lookout for duvets to use as padding.)
I find helping the rescue very rewarding, sometimes heartbreaking seeing the lovely dogs who have been abandoned so frightened & confused, but the way they respond to love & affection is amazing!!!!!!!!!
My last foster was a gorgeous Cavalier King Charles spaniel called Maddy who has gone to her new home, her new owners came to see her and they couldn't wait to see her & it was love at first sight both ways !!!!!!!!!!!!, it's great when you know they are going to a wonderful home to genuine dog lovers. I have just picked up two new boys from the pound Jay and Ollie.
