Penny had lived with a family all her life. Sadly, her owners had to go to work full-time, so Penny was being left alone all day, which made her unhappy.
Penny is just about everything you could wish for in a dog . She is very affectionate and loving, has no issues with other dogs or people, can be let off the lead in a safe area, is obedient, can be left for up to around four hours, is not destructive, is housetrained and has no possession issues around food or toys. She has no aggression issues at all. She travels well and can be taken anywhere. Her recall is sometimes not instant if there is something interesting to sniff, but she is never going to run off (although she likes to run after birds and squirrels). She walks well on a lead, maybe not exactly to heel, but she does not pull.
Don't be fooled by her age though, Penny is no couch potato! Although not at all demanding, she needs at least one good walk off lead every day. She loves to play, chase a ball (and sometimes her tail!) and fling her ragger around . She still has tremendous speed and sometimes joins in a game of chase with the pups in the park. She runs for fun.
Penny is very submissive with other dogs. Although absolutely fine with them when out on a walk, having been an only dog all her life, she is unsure of how to deal with another dog in close proximity in the house. This leads her to become worried when they are near her and she just tries to get away from them. For this reason, we think she would be happier as an only dog.
Penny can be a little sensitive of a lot of noise, so it is probably best that her prospective new home is reasonably quiet. She has lived with children before, but would possibly not cope with children that are noisy and is certainly not a rough and tumble sort of a dog.
As Penny came into rescue due to being unhappy at being left all day, she would need a home where someone is around a lot of the time. We think she would be OK with someone who worked a few hours a day.
Penny has been spayed, microchipped and is up to date with her vaccinations, flea and worm treatment.
Sounds the perfect dog? Well, she is and makes having a dog around the house an absolute joy. Unfortunately Penny has been diagnosed with a heart murmur . Without a chest x-ray, it is not possible to say how severe it is. However, Penny shows no signs of being anything other than a happy, healthy girl at present. There are no signs (coughing, panting, etc) of her being in heart failure, so there is no reason to put her through an x-ray and she currently needs no medication. It is not possible to tell when, or even if, this situation may change. We will expect any prospective home to give Penny all the necessary treatment as and when the situation arises. The terms of adoption may be varied due to this.
If you would like to offer Penny a foster home please download our adoption form and e-mail it to [email protected]. If you have problems downloading the form, please just email us. Adoptions will be subject to a satisfactory homecheck and a minimum donation.
