Well, Rudy is still here!
He has a lovely temperament and he is finally learning to trust us bless him. Hes been with us now since November 07 and this trust thing is only now coming into its own, whoever takes this lad on HAS to bear this in mind, he will not trust you overnight.
He still has a little guard of his stuff every now and then namely food. If you go poking in his bowl whilst hes eating hell growl at you, likewise if you try to take his bone off him. But then why shouldnt he, its his! Id do the same. Having said that he is so much better than he was and I can entice things away from him with a sneaky bit of cheese or a cocktail sausage. He did let me take a chunk of meat out of his bowl the other day without so much as a look I nearly fell over, lol. Hes not really interested in toys so hes not guarding them any more although if he does have one on his bed hell let you know if he doesnt want you to have it.
IMPORTANT: This issue is going to have to be continued to be worked on or else all our hard work with him is for nothing.
Rudy loves his walks and if he gets overexcited when hes off lead i.e. he sees a rabbit, mouse, dog, etc etc his instincts kick in and hes after it!! You wont get him back unless hes finished!! He will need somewhere safe to be able to go off lead, not by any roads.
Hes great on the lead and as long as he gets a good few walks a day then he wouldnt need the off lead exercise but he is an high energy dog when hes out. Hed make a great jogging companion! Even so, when hes in the house he does exactly what hes told and he just lounges around and sleeps hardly ever moves and is so well behaved. He sits, gives his paw (high five), lies down, stays, goes to bed, gets down & gets off, lol. Hes a bit of a cuddle monster.
As for kids, even though hes unsuitable to be re-homed with permanent children, hes great with the overexciteable kids that visit us (2, 6 & 8) and we have never had any problems with him. The children know to give him space and he comes to them if he wants a fuss. They know NEVER to try and take anything off him or jump on his bed/startle him if hes sleeping and I supervise them constantly.
On top of all that he is just so handsome and he loves life. He deserves a special home, like the one he has in our hearts.
