We adopted Bernard in April 2007 as a companion for our elderly golden retriever Jessie (also a rescue). We moved house shortly after Bernard came to live with us and he is often now called 'Sir Bernard of Portchester' as we live near a beautiful castle where we walk the dogs every day. Although diagnosed with chronic bronchitis at the end of last year he's always smiling and loves to sleep on the sofa whenever we're not looking..... However, he has developed some nasty habits..... 1) using the bushes in the garden for scratching his back - there is a Bernard-shaped hole in one of the nicest ones 2) wiping his nose on your work clothes when you get home 3) trying to nudge you down the stairs in the morning to go for a walk. We are truly grateful to Four Paws for the opportunity to give Bernard a forever home in his later years (we know how it was difficult for his foster parents to part with him) and think you all do an amazing job. Bernard is a brilliant addition to the family, we could not have wished for a more loyal, loving companion.
