Tegan is cat friendly (see photo), she is more likely to lick them to death than bite - she will run after cats as she is very interested in them, but means no harm.
She is also dog friendly, she has lived with a female, as well as briefly with other foster dogs. Additionally she has met many other dogs while walking. Tegan is very interested in playing with other dogs, so a home with another dog would be great. She never reacts to aggressive dogs even those who try to bite her. She plays very well with other dogs - likes rough and tumble and doesn't fight over toys. She can be fed with other dogs - not food aggressive at all, but may steal food if the other dog appears to leave it.
Tegan is very keen to meet people - on her walks she has met all types of people outside with no hint of a problem. She has been exposed to runners, cyclists and doesn't fear or chase them. She gets over-excited when she sees a 'ball' game - so she needs to be on the lead with strict supervision when children are playing these games.
She is child friendly, she has lived briefly with very young children - she is very gentle with children of all ages, however, due to her size and focus on food, needs to be supervised at all times. Will play gently with toys with children.
Tegan is mostly house trained - she is used to being in her crate at night and won't urinate in there, however, when she has slept outside her crate she has urinated some nights. We are currently training Tegan with the expectation she will be completely toilet trained in a week or so.
She is very eager to play and exercise. Loves to retrieve a ball, run around sniffing and generally being out and about, but most happy playing with another dog. Good at recall (but needs more work - when distracted) and walks very well on the lead. She will walk behind you off lead on command and tends to remain with the other dogs on walks. On two occasions Tegan has been so excited splashing around in water that I've had to fish her out of a lake and river... during this 'fun' time she completely ignored all commands and enticements - this could be dangerous (she could get swept away in a river) Future owners need to be aware of this.
General Behaviour - Tegan is a very loving and boisterous dog who needs clear boundaries, some fun exercise and consistent training. She is completely focused on food and so should be easy to train. She will look for food at all times - so expect her to jump up on worktops, look in bins, and eat anything she sees on the ground outdoors. Tegan also seems more focused on other dogs than people, so has the potential to be 'lead astray' by an untrained dog or 'guided' by a well trained dog. Most important Tegan is an extremely well tempered dog, never once showing signs of aggression, all she wants is love and hugs from humans. Her training is going well, she wants to please, but sometimes it can take a while for her to understand what you want.
Tegan is a great family dog, companion dog and company for another dog. Preferably Tegan would go to a house with another dog or somewhere she can regularly play with other dogs. She would be fine in a home with children. The people who adopt her need to be firm and willing to train and exercise her regularly.
